India's population is projected to peak in the early 2060s at around 1.7 billion, then decline by 12 per cent, remaining the world's most populous country throughout the century, as per the United Nations. The global population is expected to reach around 10.3 billion by the mid-2080s, with India surpassing China as the most populous nation and projected to decline to 1.5 billion by 2100.
