India to Face Sri Lanka in ODIs, T20Is at Pallekele, Colombo
The BCCI said on Thursday that India’s tour to Sri Lanka in July and August will include three T20 Internationals and the same number of One Day Internationals. The matches will be held at Pallekele and Colombo.
The T20 Internationals (July 26, 27, and 29) at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium will serve as the first event of the white-ball trip. The series will then go to Colombo, where the one-dayers (August 1, 4, 7) will be played at the R Premadasa International Stadium.
Gautam Gambhir, the recently hired head coach of India, and Sanath Jayasuriya, the new coach of Sri Lanka, will lead the teams.
Gambhir recently took the place of Rahul Dravid, who assisted India in winning their second T20 World Cup in the Americas. Jayasuriya took Chris Silverwood’s place.
Although India has not yet revealed their lineup for the series, veteran players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be rested for this journey, according to a July 8 PTI report.
It is anticipated that KL Rahul would be named the captain of the ODI team, and Hardik Pandya will take charge of the T20I side.
Meanwhile, Wanindu Hasaranga resigned from his position on Thursday, meaning that Sri Lanka, who were eliminated from the T20 World Cup in the group stages, will also have a new captain.
India will visit the island nation on a white-ball bilateral basis for the first time since 2021. With Shikhar Dhawan captaining a benchwarmer team, Dravid served as the interim coach at the time.
On that occasion, the tourists had won the ODI and T20I series.
