CyBC staff to go on strike over pension benefits

0

CyBC employees will be going on strike on Friday afternoon due to the state-broadcaster failing to pay pension benefits to retired staff on time.

The strike will be held from 8pm until 9pm, meaning the main news broadcast will be affected.

A statement from the CyBC union said that a decision has been taken to extend the strike measures next week as well which will be officially announced on Sunday, after consultation with the trade unions.

The aim is to resolve the procedural issue, which has left workers who retired in 2023 and beyond without a pension, and all those who will follow, it said.

A meeting has also been arranged for CyBC to meet with the finance minister on the matter, at the ministry, at 2.30pm.

The unions said that eight CyBC pensioners and other due to retire soon are facing the same issues with receiving their pensions.

“Twelve months after their retirement from CyBC, the finance ministry needs to agree on their pension benefits,” the unions said.

The delay is said to be caused by the parties concerned claiming that incomplete information is presented in the personal employment files of permanent staff.
