After a hot day on Thursday, setting some high temperature records in Saskatchewan, and a thunder storm in Prince Albert last night, we're enjoying a lovely day to play softball today at Rotary Field. We have four important games today, which could be critical for the Opening Round final standings and the qualification for the playoffs.
Game 10 will see Hong Kong, China playing against Argentina (2-0). The top-ranked nation in the world is one of two teams undefeated in the tournament, while the Asians will complete their double header with this game. The last time they faced each other was in 2017 in Whitehorse, Canada. That day, Argentina defeated the Asians 8-0 in five innings. Argentina's pitchers Roman Godoy and Martin Gonzalez combined for a perfect game, striking out 13 of the 15 batters they faced.
Singapore lineup mounted today a slugfest in Game 8 of the World Cup, exploding with 18 hits in a 16-1, four-inning victory agains Israel. This was Singapore's first win of the tournament. Ean Eu, Huzaifie Noorham, and Dominic Han tallied three hits each.
Singapore scored multiple runs in their all four at bats, with a solo home run by Joshua Tam (second consecutive game with a homer for the catcher) and a grand slam off the bat of Andre Chia.
Huizafie Noorham pitched the first two innings with four strikeouts and no hits allowed, followed by Jun Heng Ong (1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 2 K) and Mathew Tan, who struck out the side in the fourth and was credited with the win.
