‘Shōgun,’ ‘Hacks’ top Television Critics Association Awards winners
“Shōgun” led the 40th Television Critics Association Awards on Friday with four wins, including Program of the Year.
The FX show prevailed in every category in which it was nominated as it also won drama series and new program, while Anna Sawai defeated co-star Hiroyuki Sanada for the gender-neutral Individual Achievement in Drama prize. Sawai is the ninth consecutive woman to win the award.
With five nominations apiece, “Shōgun” co-led nominations alongside “Baby Reindeer” and “Ripley.” “Baby Reindeer” won limited series/TV movie/specials, but “Ripley” went 0-5. “Baby Reindeer,” “Ripley,” two limited series, and three-time nominee “Fargo,” an anthology series, were inexplicably nominated in both the limited series/TV movie/specials category and the drama category.

“Hacks” swept the comedy categories, taking series and Individual Achievement in Comedy for Jean Smart. It was the second victory for the actress, who won in 2021 for the Max series’ first season. She is the fifth person to win the category twice after David Hyde Pierce, Jane Kaczmarek, Jon Stewart and Louis C.K.
“John Mulaney Presents: Everybody’s in LA” won variety series and “The Traitors” took reality program.
“Twin Peaks” received the Heritage Award, while the late Andre Braugher, who won two Individual Achievement in Drama prizes for “Homicide: Life on the Street,” earned the Career Achievement Award.
The TCA Awards held its first in-person ceremony since 2019 on Friday, as the previous four editions were canceled due to COVID-19 and the writers’ strike. Last year, “Succession” and “The Bear” each won two awards, with the former taking Program of the Year, before winning series prizes at the delayed Emmy Awards in January.
