Newcastle United Rebuffed By Serie A Star After Boss Assurances

Juventus defender Federico Gatti knocked back an approach from Newcastle United following receiving assurances from Thiago Motta this summer.

Newcastle are in the market for at least one more centre-back following their capture of Lloyd Kelly and had their eyes on the 26-year-old defender at Juventus.

The Magpies were keeping tabs on him with a view to potentially taking him to St. James’ Park in the ongoing transfer window.

Newcastle even approached Gatti and his camp but their enquiry was rebuffed by the defender.

According to Turin-based daily Tuttosport, Newcastle knocked on the door of the defender but their approach was rejected.

Juventus have been clear about not wanting to sell the centre-back this summer and want him in their squad.

Any question marks over his future were lifted after Gatti had a phone conversation with new Juventus manager Thiago Motta.

The former midfielder assured the defender that he is part of his plans going forward at Juventus.

Motta is sure about having Gatti in his squad and admires the versatility that he brings to the table.
