Mariners Moose Tracks, 7/13/24: Andrés Muñoz, Whit Merrifield, and Paul Skenes
It’s All-Star weekend! (even if the break doesn’t officially start until Monday)
Hello friends! The Mariners’ grip on first place is weak at best, but another opportunity against the Angels comes today. Let’s get you started off with the latest from the world of baseball.
In Mariners news...
- The Mariners got their second All-Star with reliever Andrés Muñoz being named to the squad — fittingly enough, as a replacement for the unavailable Logan Gilbert.
- M’s minor leaguer Yeury Tatiz has been suspended for 80 games for violating the league’s PED policy.
Around the league...
- In a surprising turn of events, the Phillies have released infielder Whit Merrifield.
- With the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft kicking off tomorrow, we got a couple more mock drafts, one from Baseball America ($) and one from ESPN ($).
- In a decision that was no doubt made with the fans in mind, Major League Baseball has named Paul Skenes as the National League All-Star Game starter.
- Wild but true!
Baseball is made all the more beautiful by the fact that Skenes, a perfect athlete with all the talent in the world, would have to defy the odds to have a career as long and productive as the one Bartolo had https://t.co/S8eTYYTlGm
