Red Sox Select Payton Tolle With 2024 Second-Round Pick

After selecting a power-hitting outfielder in Braden Montgomery, the Boston Red Sox made an addition on the mound in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft.

Boston selected left-handed pitcher Payton Tolle from Texas Christian University with the No. 50 overall selection.

Tolle began his college career with two seasons at Wichita State where the now Red Sox prospect posted an ERA over 4.00 in both seasons. The lefty transferred to TCU for the 2024 season and certainly made an adjustment, going 7-4 with a 3.21 ERA while striking out just under 14 batters per nine innings.

Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow made his first pitching selection to now enter into a strong pipeline that’s totally enhanced the production on the mound throughout Boston’s organization.

The MLB Network broadcast compared Tolle to Miami Marlins lefty reliever Tanner Scott when envisioning his potential role for the Red Sox in the big leagues.

Tolle serves as the second and final pick for the Red Sox on Night 1 of the draft.
