Ex-Sheriff Lee Baca found hours after going missing

0

Former Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca was found early Monday, July 15, hours after he apparently wandered away from his San Marino home.

San Marino Police Chief John Incontro told reporters at about 1 a.m. that Baca was found in an El Monte restaurant and identified with the help of a bracelet he wears.

Baca suffered no injuries, Incontro said: “He seemed to be in good spirits.”

NBC4 reported Baca, 82, was last seen around 3:30 p.m. Sunday at his home.

ABC7 reported Baca has Alzheimer’s disease, according to what his attorneys stated in 2016 before his conviction for obstructing an FBI investigation into abuse in county jails. He served about two years of a three-year sentence in federal prison.

The San Marino Police Department was heading the search for Baca, LASD Dep. V. Rodriguez told City News Service.

The department was assisted in the search by several nearby departments and the sheriff’s missing-persons detectives, Incontro said.

Baca served as Los Angeles County Sheriff from 1998 to 2014.
