Donald Trump officially named Republican Party's presidential nominee

0

Former President Donald Trump officially clinched the presidential nomination at the Republican National Convention Monday.

Less than halfway through the delegate roll call, Trump achieved the 1,215 Republican delegates needed to clinch the nomination, according to a tally by CBS News. Nearly 2,500 delegates have gathered in Milwaukee for the convention.

From California to Maryland, all states so far have cast all of their votes for Trump. Cheers of "Fight! Fight! Fight!" rang throughout the convention hall, which Trump said after Saturday's attempted assassination attempt that left his face bloodied.

When announcing that Alabama would cast all of its delegates to Trump, Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville said, "We stand for the flag and kneel for God. Madam Chair, we proudly cast our 50 delegates for the next President of the United States, Donald J. Trump."

During the roll call, Trump announced his vice president pick as Ohio Senator J.D. Vance on Truth Social.

Luke Schroeder, Vance's congressional press secretary, declined to comment.
