Louisiana Delegates Applaud J.D. Vance as Trump’s Vice Presidential Pick
MILWAUKEE, W.I. (KLFY) - Louisiana delegates are confidently standing with former President Donald Trump's vice presidential candidate selection.
The crowd in the UW–Milwaukee Panther Arena erupted Monday afternoon as Senator J.D. Vance was announced as Trump’s running mate in this year’s presidential election.
Ohio Senator Vance was initially elected to the U.S. Senate in 2022.
“Vance is a kind of a newcomer to politics, so he's kind of exciting and motivating," said Julie Emerson, a Louisiana delegate from Lafayette.
Vance, 39, would be the youngest vice president since Richard Nixon, if elected.
Today’s theme at the convention is "Make America Safe Again."
Louisiana delegates will join other guests delegates from the 49 other states and U.S. territoies for caucusing in the arena.
The scheduled speakers include Louisiana Rep. Steve Scalise, House Majority Leader, House Speaker Mike Johnson, Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, Texas Senator Ted Cruz, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy, former 2024 presidential candidate.
These speakers, among others, will make speeches addressing law enforcement, securing the southern border, human and drug trafficking and a variety of other issues.
