USA finish Opening Round with shutout win over China
World No. 1 USA completed their Opening Round with a 6-0 win over China on Wednesday in the WBSC Women's Softball World Cup Finals 2024 in Castions di Strada in Italy.
USA pitchers Ally Carda and Rachel Garcia allowed China only two runners, showcasing their dominant performance in the circle.
China starter Yinan Chai allowed a pair of walks and hit a batter. The United States thrived on it with base hits by Jocelyn Alo and Savhanna Jaquish, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first.
The reigning World Champions added two runs in the top of the second on a double by Alo and a base hit by Jessie Warren.
China relieved Chai with Yuchen Wei in the top of the third. Maya Brady got to her with a two-out RBI double to make it 5-0 in the top of the third.
USA starter Ally Carda threw 2.1 perfect innings before allowing a base-hit to Zixuan Dong.
Carda left for Rachel Garcia after four innings. The reliever posted three perfect innings-
USA added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on a two-out RBI single.
The United States will open their Super Round with a 1-0 record. China will head to the Placement Round and start with a 0-1 record.
