ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- State police reported the arrest of Rahmeer Nesmith, 21, of Albany, in connection to an illegal weapons investigation. Nesmith is facing numerous charges related to the manufacturing of "ghost guns," which are privately-made firearms that are untraceable due to their lack of serial numbers.
On the morning of July 18, multiple law enforcement agencies executed a search warrant at a home on Orange Street in Albany in connection to a longstanding investigation. During the operation, a plethora of weapons and ammunition magazines were seized, including three loaded handguns, a loaded assault rifle, and various ghost gun components, as well as two 3-D printers, tools and assorted rolls of printer filament.
Nesmith was taken into custody as a result of the search. He now faces the following charges:
Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon - assault weapon
Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon - three or more firearms
Third-degree criminal possession of a weapon - machine gun
10 counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon - large capacity ammunition feeding device
Two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon - major component of a firearm
Nesmith was arraigned at the Albany Criminal Court and remanded to the Albany County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash or $200,000 bond. State police say additional charges are pending and the investigation remains ongoing.
