24-year-old Chinese Influencer Dies As She Consumes ‘Too Much Food’ On Live Broadcast
Viral News: It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World! It is not just the title of the epic comedy Hollywood film but also a moniker of a kind to define the kind of society this entire world has become since the inception of social media and the craze that it has created for users and influencers to get fame, recognition, views, and likes. These people are willing, and they do go to any extent to prove some “stupid, silly point”. In the process many of them have lost their lives and many have been badly injured.
In one such case, 24-year-old Pan Xiaoting, an influencer in China lost her life as she was performing an “eating challenge” while streaming it live for her followers.
Pan Xiaoting is said to be specializing in mukbang (eating large quantities of food for viewers’ enjoyment) and has been taking up challenges that required her to eat for more than 10 hours at a stretch.
The unfortunate incident took place on July 14, reported local portal Hankyung.
As per Creaders.com, a local Chinese portal, Xiaoting used to eat 10 kg of food per meal. Despite repeated warnings from her parents and well-wishers, but Xiaoting continued with it.
In her autopsy report, it was mentioned that her stomach was “deformed” and contained “undigested food,” the report added. Her death has triggered health concerns on social media.
The Chinese government prohibited binge-eating of this kind in 2021 that outlawed citizens from ordering too much food from restaurants and other eateries in an attempt to curb waste.
