Oakland Ballers fire Micah Franklin, first manager in franchise history

0

OAKLAND — In a surprising development, the first-year Oakland Ballers announced on Sunday afternoon they have fired manager and ex-major leaguer Micah Franklin after just 54 games.

The B’s, currently in their first season while the A’s are in the midst of their last in Oakland, are currently 29-25, tied for the fourth-best overall record in the independent Pioneer League. The Ballers have already had three players — Elijah Pleasants, Danny Kirwin and Tyler Davis — sign with major-league organizations since the season started.

When reached by this organization, Franklin declined to comment. The Ballers could not immediately be reached for comment.

Former major leaguer Aaron Miles, a graduate of Antioch High School who served as the team’s infield and third base coach, will take over as the Ballers’ interim manager. Additionally, the Ballers have hired James Harris, a graduate of Oakland Tech High School and the 60th overall pick in the 2011 MLB Draft.

Franklin, born in San Francisco and a graduate of Lincoln High School, played in one major-league season, appearing in 17 games with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1997. Franklin, 52, also suited up for the NPB’s Nippon Ham Fighters and Hanshin Tigers, as well as the Hyundai Unicorns of the KBO.
