‘That’s incredibly mean’ people cry as mum reveals ‘silly’ reason her son is excluded from nursery graduation

A MUM has brutally slammed a nursery for excluding her son from their graduation over a ”silly” reason.

As we’re fast approaching September, for many nursery goers this means only one thing – saying goodbye to their little peers and heading off to the big school.

Sadly, one young boy will have to miss out on the graduation ceremony – but not because his family is going on a holiday or his parents don’t want him to take part.

According to the mother, her son has allegedly been banned from the ceremony, as she took to the popular forum Mumsnet to express her fury.

The mum – who thought of nursery graduations as ”silly” – explained that her little one had joined the nursery not long ago and claimed that the staff were now refusing him entrance.

”I know these nursery graduations are all a bit silly anyway, but my DS [dear son] joined his nursery a few months ago, and they have said because he has only been there for a few months he is not part of the graduation ceremony,” she wrote in the post.

What’s more, the mother insisted that the staff members are okay for her son to take part in the rehearsals for the big day – however, he won’t be allowed to attend it.

”They have said they are including him in the signing rehearsals etc but they ordered the cap and gowns ages ago and it’s only for those children who have been there the whole time.”

Angered, she added that the nursery had not contacted her family to inform them about the decision and this was announced in front of everyone.

”I don’t understand how they could have a conversation and say yes let’s leave this child out of it.

”They also didn’t communicate it to us, they just put the notice out to the whole class, and he is literally the only one who this applies to.

” It was only when I asked about it did they tell me!”

Just as gobsmacked were fellow Mumsnet users who raced to comments to slate the nursery for the ”unreasonable” and cruel decision.

One supportive person said: ”That is incredibly mean. Just be glad he’s leaving I suppose.”

Another agreed, adding: ”That’s really mean. Who cares about caps and gowns on 4 year olds?

”Half of them will probably take them off before any ceremony starts.”

What is a nursery graduation - and why it's a thing?

Although nursery graduation ceremonies have long been popular in the USA and around Europe, the concept is still relatively new to the UK.

While some often see it as a waste of time, the aim of a kindergarten graduation is to teach children about entering a new chapter in their life.

The ceremony, which sometimes also sees the little ones wearing a cape and a mini mortar board, includes a short but sweet speech, often followed by the graduates collection their certificates and performing to their families.

Not only is this a time to celebrate your children’s achievements, the graduation is also a chance to say goodbye to their peers who, in some cases, will be moving on to different primary schools.

It also gives you an opportunity to say thank you for all the teachers and staff members who’ve been there all along.

A third chimed in: ”That’s awful! I don’t like the whole nursery graduation thing, they’re not graduating and the cap and gown is for when you have a degree, but if all of his classmates are doing it and he’s also leaving to go to school this is horrible.”

Someone else thought: ”Ugh. I didn’t realise we did the cap and gown thing here.

”I suppose if they can’t get him a gown they can’t, but there must be a way to include him.”

A social media user reckoned: ”I mean the kids won’t care if his gown looks slightly different just get one off Amazon.”
