Matthew Boyd impresses in rehab assignment, Milan Tolentino walks it off for Akron
Cleveland Guardians minor league recap for Monday, July 22, 2024
Columbus Clippers 5, Louisville Bats 2
Box Score · Clippers improve to 44-50
Triston McKenzie got the start Sunday and while he was effective, allowing just two runs on two hits in four innings with a pair of strikeouts, the reason he was sent to Triple-A was to help figure out his control issues. That was not corrected Sunday, as McKenzie walked a whopping seven batters in his four innings of work. Thankfully, he pitched well with runners on base and got out of some tough situations.
The Clippers bullpen was absolutely lights out afterwards as Randy Labaut tossed two scoreless innings, then Conner Gillispie, Anthony Gose and Andrew Walters finished off the win with three scoreless innings combined to earn two holds and a save. Walters was especially dominant, striking out a pair in a perfect ninth inning.
Offensively, Juan Brito went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in. Johnathan Rodriguez and Raynel Delgado both went 2-for-4, with Rodriguez knocking in a pair of runs as well. Christian Cairo went 1-for-3 with a walk.
Akron RubberDucks 2, Richmond Flying Squirrels 1 (F/10)
Box Score · RubberDucks improve to 52-38
