‘They look awful, what’s happening these days?’ people say as fake tanner uses her product to GIVE herself tan lines
A WOMAN has left people bemused after sharing how she gives herself tan lines with fake tanner.
The majority of people try and avoid tan lines when they’re sunbathing or out for a day at the beach.
But as she promoted a self tanner, a woman took to TikTok to share a video of herself slathering it on the night before.
She had already put tape on her chest to mimic the outline of a triangle bikini, and gently patted over it with her mitt.
Then, in the morning, after having the tan on for eight hours, she carefully removed the tape to show her bronzed chest with the paler outline front and centre.
“Fake tan lines?” she wrote over the top.
“Bikini lines without sun damage?”
She also revealed that the tan “stays up to seven days”, and is also “waterproof”.
“Guess who is playing mermaid at the beach and not burning their skin crispy,” she wrote in the caption for the video promoting ROQUEBRUN. tan sunless self tan.
“Fake tanlines are here cause I will always use my self tan!”
But the comments section was almost immediately filled with people weighing in on the unusual fake tanning technique.
“Am I the only one thinking that we have been trying to AVOID tan lines since like forever?” one wrote.
“They look awful, what’s happening these days?”
“But why?” another added.
“Am I the only one who hates tan lines?” a third commented.
“It looks like tape!” someone else insisted.
“I don’t want tan lines ever – never mind when I’m fake tanning,” another wrote.
“Like for what? Ridiculous idea,” someone else raged.
As another said: “Really? Come on ladies when is all this fake stuff going to end?”
But others were more on board with the concept.
Fake Tan Lovers Guide to Applying it Streak-Free
Here’s Fabulous ultimate guide to a flawless, streak-free fake tan that will leave you looking like you’ve just stepped off the beach...
Preparation is Key
A streak-free tan starts with proper skin prep. Exfoliate your skin thoroughly 24 hours before application. Focus on rough areas like elbows, knees and ankles to ensure an even canvas. Opt for an exfoliator with natural ingredients to avoid irritation.
Hydration Station
Moisturise your entire body right after exfoliating, but pay extra attention to dry patches. On the day of tanning, only apply a light, oil-free moisturiser to these areas a few hours before you plan to tan. This prevents the tan from clinging to dry spots and developing unevenly.
Formulate, Don’t Hate
Selecting the right fake tan product can make all the difference. Mousse formulas are easiest to apply and blend. Tanning drops can be added to your regular face moisturiser to match your face with your body.
Application O’Clock
Using a tanning mitt is non-negotiable for an even application. Dispense a small amount of product onto the mitt and apply in long, sweeping motions. Start from your ankles and work your way up to avoid creases. Apply sparingly on joints and use a fluffy make-up brush for your hands and feet.
Post-Tan Care
Once you’ve applied your tan, allow it to dry completely before dressing. Loose, dark clothing is best to avoid transferring colour. Avoid water and sweat for at least six to eight hours while the tan develops. After your first rinse, pat your skin dry gently and moisturise daily to prolong your tan.
“Loveeee this,” one wrote.
“Pretty cool technique,” another added.
“Love tan lines,” a third insisted.
“Sexy as hell!”
“I think tan lines are so pretty but the sun damage is a no,” someone else said.
