Man United have to share profit with another club as 'unusual' clause comes to limelight - report

0

Manchester United struck an unusual deal with Getafe last year that is now under the spotlight.

According to The Athletic, Man United will owe 20 percent of all of their potential future earnings on Mason Greenwood to the La Liga club.

Marseille signed Greenwood for a total package of £26.7 million last week. Getafe have already earned £5.34m from the forward’s move to France.

United inserted a significant sell-on clause to benefit from future earnings.

However, they will have to share that profit with Getafe who had Greenwood on loan for one year.

This clause will raise eyebrows, showcasing questionable decision-making by United’s hierarchy.

Getafe took the risk of bringing a player with negative engagement. They played their cards well to get a sound financial deal to compensate for the risk.

The deal highlights potential missteps in United’s strategic planning.

INEOS have taken charge of footballing operations at United and made positive steps since their arrival.

They have made a quick start in the transfer market by signing Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro.

Their proactive approach to strengthening the squad and the coaching staff shows their eagerness to get the club back on the right track.
