Trump plans to welcome Netanyahu to Mar-a-Lago after speech to Congress
Donald Trump will welcome Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to his resort home at Mar-a-Lago the same day he addresses the U.S. Congress.
The prime minister will speak to Congress on Wednesday and then is scheduled to meet at the White House with president Joe Biden, who has been recovering from Covid-19, and Trump claimed on his Truth Social platform that Netanyahu would visit his Palm Beach, Florida, resort later that day.
"Looking forward to welcoming Bibi Netanyahu at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, tomorrow," Trump posted. "During my first term, we had Peace and Stability in the Region, even signing the historic Abraham Accords - And we will have it again. Just as I have said in discussions with President Zelensky and other World Leaders in recent weeks, my PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH Agenda will demonstrate to the World that these horrible, deadly Wars, and violent Conflicts must end. Millions are dying, and Kamala Harris is in no way capable of stopping it."
The vice president has emerged as the likely Democratic nominee after Biden exited the race Sunday due to intraparty concerns about his age, but she will miss Netanyahu's speech due to travel.
The White House said officials expect Netanyahu to preview to Biden “in pretty specific terms” what he intends to say to Congress as pressure mounts on U.S. officials to help negotiate a ceasefire in the war in Gaza.
A group of former Israeli national security officials, academics and business leaders have sent U.S. congressional leaders a letter warning that Netanyahu was an "existential threat" to Israeli and U.S. national security, saying the prime minister had turned his own people against one another and undermined national interests to ensure his political survival in the face of bribery and fraud charges.
