Officials from the Ministry of Hajj and Religious Affairs have reported that 27 Afghan pilgrims have lost their lives during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage.

Sheikh Noor Mohammad Saqib, the Minister of Hajj and Religious Affairs of the Taliban, shared this information during a press conference.

During the briefing, Saqib announced the conclusion of this year’s Hajj season and the return of over 30,000 pilgrims from Saudi Arabia to Afghanistan.

According to Saqib, the 27 deceased pilgrims in Mecca and Medina passed away due to various causes, including two from traffic accidents, one from high blood pressure, one from heart complications, one from diabetes, one from extreme heat, and the remaining 21 from natural causes.

Earlier, reports indicated that Saudi Arabia allocated 30,000 Hajj quotas to Afghanistan this year, which were transparently distributed among applicants across the country. It also noted that the transfer of pilgrims had been carried out from Kabul, Herat, Balkh, and Kandahar.

The Hajj pilgrimage, one of the Five Pillars of Islam, remains a deeply significant event for Muslims around the world.

Despite the challenges and risks associated with such a large-scale religious journey, 30,000 people attended the ceremony this year. The reported deaths highlight the importance of providing adequate support and healthcare for pilgrims during their journey to Mecca and Medina.
