Church Point traffic stop leads to drug arrest
CHURCH POINT, La. (KLFY) -- A Church Point man was arrested after a traffic stop last week, and charged with drug and gun offenses, authorities said.
Timothy Mattingly, 57, is charged with the following:
- Possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine
- possession of marijuana
- possession of a firearm in the presence of drugs
- possession of drug paraphernalia
- following too close
- driving under suspension
Church Point Police said an officer conducted a traffic stop at 9:34 p.m. Thursday of a vehicle that was following another too close on N. Main Street in Church Point. During the traffic stop the officer learned the driver, Mattingly, was driving under suspension. While conducting a search a glass meth pipe containing residue was found in his pants pocket, police said. Further investigation of the vehicle found marijuana, nearly 2 ounces of crystal methamphetamine, a scale and gun.
Mattingly was booked into the Church Point Police Department and later transferred to the Acadia Parish Jail to await bond, which was set at $60,000.
