Oregon Lottery offering wagers for the 2024 Olympic Games
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – The Oregon Lottery announced Wednesday its offering wagers for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris -- featuring more than 400 betting options from karate to surfing.
Bets can be placed through the Oregon Lottery's DraftKings Sportsbook, with wagers including the number of medals for athletes and a country, whether world records will be broken, and which country will earn the most gold medals.
This marks the third year Oregon Lottery will offer wagers on the Olympics and comes after the organization debuted sports betting in 2019.
In a press release announcing the wagers, Oregon Lottery highlighted Oregonians competing in the games, including Jade Carey, an Oregon State University gymnast, Ryan Crouser of Boring, who has a world record in shot put, and Magda Skarbonkiewicz, a former Jesuit High School student who will compete in fencing.
The Portland Thorns will also make a showing with defender Sam Coffey representing Team USA and forward Janine Beckie and midfielder Jessie Fleming competing for Canada.
Oregon Lottery Sports Betting Products Manager Kerry Hemphill anticipates popular betting categories to be men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, and tennis.
“Because we’re in the off season for basketball and football, the summer months are typically slower for sports wagering,” Hemphill said. “We’re hoping to see a boost in interest thanks to U.S. Olympic stars.”
