What's the latest on Barton Springs' bathhouse construction?

0

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Visitors to Barton Springs Pool will see plenty of construction work this summer as rehabilitation efforts continue at the Joan Means Khabele Bathhouse.

The bathhouse closed in early June for construction work, which is set to wrap next summer. Crews have already completed sidewalks heading to the new west side pool entrance and relocated temporary restrooms and showers for public access. Right now, teams are demolishing the men's and women's showers, the rotunda and the Beverly Sheffield Education Center.

Along with that demolition work, crews are working on asbestos abatement efforts and lead-based paint remediation, according to a city release. The following tasks are upcoming planned work:

  • Installation of new water, wastewater lines in the building
  • Installation of new electrical lines in the building
  • Installation of new fiber line
  • Installation of concrete foundation

Barton Springs Pool continues to operate on its regular schedule, but city officials stressed William Barton Drive next to the bathhouse is closed for parking and drop-offs. Other parking lots at Zilker Park remain open, with ADA-accessible parking also available throughout parking.

No changes have been made to the southside pool entry gate and the parking lot at Azie Morton, officials added.
