Man Utd prepare three-man transfer shortlist, includes former Barca ace - report

0

Manchester United find themselves in a bit of a pickle due to their vulnerability regarding the left-back spot.

The Red Devils confirmed that Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia won’t travel to the US for their pre-season tour.

Shaw has been given an extended break due to his involvement with England in the Euro 2024.

Malacia is still recovering from a knee injury that kept him off the pitch for more than a year.

According to the Mirror, United are open to signing a new left-back and have added three names to their shortlist.

David Hancko (Feyenoord) and Tyrick Mitchell (Crystal Palace) are their potential targets.

They also have a keen eye on former Chelsea and Barcelona full-back Marcos Alonso.

Man United must sign a new left-back

The 20-year-old Sam Murray and the 17-year-old Harry Amass are the two United left-backs who will be part of the pre-season tour to the US.

It is a massive opportunity for the two starlets to impress Erik ten Hag and the club hierarchy.

Shaw has been marvelled with Amass and named the teenager as the player to watch out for last month.

The duo have a bright future but it might be too soon for them to make the leap to the first team.

Ten Hag does not shy away from backing youngsters but is also adamant that they must earn that opportunity.

If Murray and Amass can step up in the upcoming pre-season, they might feature for the first-team regularly.

However, we believe United must sign a new left-back due to the unreliability of Shaw and Malacia.

Palace’s Mitchell has a vast experience of playing in the Premier League, featuring over 130 times.

He contributed with two goals and three assists in the top flight last season. He showcased his sound defending style by making 2.8 tackles and 2.3 clearances per outing.

His current market value is £21 million but United could try to sign him in a cut-price deal considering he has only one year left on his contract.

Alonso could be an intriguing option for the Red Devils, given his experience and skill set.

The 33-year-old is well-known for his attacking prowess but is also infamous for his defensive frailties.

As a free agent, Alonso can be signed without a transfer fee, making him a cost-effective solution to United’s immediate need for a left-back.
