All eyes on Cyprus Olympics team
All of Cyprus will be watching the Paris Olympics urging our athletes to make the country proud on the biggest sporting stage – the Paris Olympics – as they compete for distinction against the world’s elite.
What is certain is that all Cypriots recognise the efforts of our athletes and are ready to celebrate new successes in these Olympic Games. In this endeavour, the sporting community of Cyprus has a strong ally on its side: OPAP Cyprus – the largest and most consistent supporter of Cypriot Sport.
For 55 years, OPAP Cyprus and Cyprus sport have been walking together, at all levels, in good times and in difficult times. Over the years, OPAP Cyprus has played a crucial role in the development of major sports facilities across the country, such as the Makarios Stadium in Nicosia and the Tsirios Stadium in Limassol. The company also contributed to the development of the Lefkotheo indoor sport facility, the first of its kind in the country, and the Olympic-sized swimming pool in Limassol.
Today, through institutional partnerships with the Cyprus Sports Organisation (Koa) and the Cyprus Olympic Committee, as well as the vast majority of sports federations, OPAP Cyprus stands by sports, from the infrastructure level to the national championships and of course the Cyprus Olympic Team, which it has been actively supporting since 1980, when Cyprus first participated in the Olympic Games.
In addition, OPAP Cyprus promotes sporting ideals through activities and events that combine sporting and social elements. In this context, the company has supported, through sponsorship programmes, student sports as well as refugee and rural clubs throughout Cyprus.
It also actively participates in the OPAP Limassol Marathon, an event that has become a celebration of sport, volunteerism and social contribution. Also, the OPAP ALL STAR DAY is an event that combines basketball with social activities, such as the “Neophytos Chandriotis” award, which is given to distinguished members of the academic community, in memory of the international basketball player and excellent student, who passed away in 2015, after a brave battle with cancer.
At the same time, OPAP Cyprus promotes inclusivity and inclusion in sport, supporting athletes with disabilities and Special Olympics athletes, through the donation of equipment and various actions aimed at promoting the right to sport for all citizens of Cyprus.
Overall, OPAP Cyprus is a dynamic and sincere supporter of Cypriot Sport, standing by the side of thousands of athletes and the sporting community as a whole, always based on common values and guided by the vision for the continuous development of the country’s sporting life!
