LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) -- A Lafayette man accused of raping a child in 1991 has been indicted on various charges including first degree rape, court records show.
Wamer Joseph Balfa, 59, of Lafayette was indicted Wednesday by a grand jury in the 15th Judicial District Court of the following charges:
- First degree rape upon victim under the age of 13 (3 counts)
- Indecent behavior with a juvenile under 13 (2 counts)
The alleged crimes were all committed on or about June 1, 1991, according to the indictment.
An indictment means a grand jury determined that enough evidence exists to warrant a trial on the charges leveled. The scheduled date of that trial has not yet been released.
