Canadian MTB Championships returned to Nova Scotia to crown its 2024 national champions. Ontario athletes were well represented with a number of outstanding performances and podium finishes. Team Ontario, supported by coaches Roxy Slotegraaf and Rob Holmgren included 10 athletes all in the U17 and U19 categories. This included Elly Moore who captured the U17 Women’s title in the XCC event and her brother Evan Moore who captured silver in the U17 Men’s race just ahead of fellow Ontario rider Tristan Génier. In the U19 races, Aislin Hallahan took home bronze in the women’s event. In the Elite races, Ontario athletes Jenn Jackson and Cole Punchard won gold with Ava Holmgren taking silver.
The weather conditions made racing a bit more challenging for mid-summer mountain biking but Ontario athletes were up for the challenge. In the XCO events, Elly and Evan Moore were back on the podium capturing 3rd in the U17 Women’s and Men’s events. The U23 Women’s race saw Ava Holmgren take off out of the gate and catch most of the Elite Women’s field despite starting in the wave behind them on route to her gold medal. In the U23 Men’s race, it was an Ontario podium sweep with Cole Punchard, Noah Ramsay, and Owen Clarke filling all three steps. Following up her XCC title earlier in the weekend, Jenn Jackson once again demonstrated her strength winning the Elite Women’s title.
Congratulations to all the podium winners and all Ontario athletes and coaches.
