Pine Prairie man accused of setting fire to home with family of 6 inside
EVANGELINE PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- A Pine Prairie man is facing multiple attempted murder charges after a home, with a family of six inside, was set on fire, officials say.
Rusty Gautreaux, 33, is facing six counts of attempted first-degree murder and one count of aggravated arson, the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office announced in a press release.
The Fire Marshal's office said Evangeline Parish Ward 4 firefighters responded to a report of a house fire around 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the 1000 block of Gautreaux Lane in Pine Prairie.
A woman, a teenager and four children were inside the home at the time of the fire but were able to escape safely. The Fire Marshal's Office said Gautreaux is a relative of the family.
Gautreaux was taken into custody near the scene for outstanding warrants and in connection with a physical altercation that occurred outside of the home shortly after the fire was discovered, the Fire Marshal's Office said.
