Alasdair Gold says there is ‘no truth’ to rumours linking Spurs with 26-year-old
Every transfer window is the same, with rumours flying left, right, and centre suggesting clubs are interested in a whole host of different players. But, one particular link between Spurs and a Serie A star is unfounded, according to Alasdair Gold.
No truth to Chiesa to Spurs links
Despite strong speculation suggesting Spurs are close to signing Federico Chiesa from Juventus, Alasdair Gold has quashed that idea and claims the Italian has never been high on the list of targets for Ange Postecoglou this summer.
In a report from Football.London, Gold suggests the Chiesa rumours may be the product of “educated guesses, tenuous links or simply names pushed by agents” and insists those actually connected with the club have been left “non-plussed” by the transfer speculation.
Chiesa is not thought to be one of Postecoglou’s “original targets” and there is seemingly “no truth” to the talk. Spurs and Postecoglou have been very clear about the fact they will be taking the time to acquire their top targets before turning to alternatives if all else fails this summer.
So, while Chiesa could potentially be further down the list of options for the Lilywhites, it would appear the idea of him being on the verge of a switch to North London is one we should not buy into.
A complex web of rumours
This would align with Fabrizio Romano’s latest comments on the matter (via Playback), where he stated Chiesa has not yet decided on his future and insisted a move is not imminent.
Indeed, it does appear to be reports from Italy that are pushing the news of a move being close, with SportMediaSet via CalcioNapoli24 claiming the switch to Spurs was nearing completion, for a fee between £25.3m – £29.5m.
According to SportMediaSet (via Calciomercato), Tottenham, Chelsea, and Arsenal are all keen on the 26-year-old.
Spurs Web Opinion
It is so hard to navigate all the conflicting information and rumours out there in the transfer market these days, but this just proves you should never expect any transfer to happen until you actually see the player posing in the Spurs kit.
