Jamie O’Hara names the one target he thinks would be a ‘perfect fit’ for Tottenham
Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jamie O’Hara believes Brentford striker Ivan Toney is the right man to fill the number nine position at Spurs.
Ivan Toney to Tottenham?
Toney has just one year left on his current contract, with a move away from Brentford this summer seeming likely. He already revealed in January that he wanted to play for a ‘top club competing for trophies’ (Sky Sports).
The Bees centre-forward has been linked with a move to Spurs lately and TalkSPORT even claim Toney is hoping Spurs bid for him over rivals West Ham United.
The 28-year-old had a difficult season, managing just four goals and two assists, after being unable to play until the start of 2024 due to his eight-month betting ban (Premier League).
But the Brentford goal machine has displayed his quality this summer while shining for England at the Euros. Despite playing less than 45 minutes throughout the tournament, he assisted the winning goal in England’s win over Slovakia and scored a no-look penalty in the shootout against Switzerland.
Jamie O’Hara is a fan of Ivan Toney
Jamie O’Hara told Grosvenor Sport that Toney failed to perform at the end of the season because he was eyeing a move away from Brentford, but that he is the right choice for Tottenham.
He said: “Ivan Toney would be a really good signing for Tottenham. They need another striker because Richarlison isn’t good enough and he doesn’t score enough goals. If Toney is available he’d be a perfect fit; he adds a different dimension up top.
“He’d add a presence. He can hold the ball up and the team can play off him. He has pace and he knows where the back of the net is. If he gets over 20 goals then that’s an amazing signing.
“Other teams like Aston Villa are making some good signings so Spurs really need to kick on in the market if they’re going to get back into the Champions League.”

O’Hara’s criticism of Richarlison is harsh. He scored seven more Premier League goals than Toney last season, while only starting two more matches (Premier League).
But Toney has shown in the past he can score 20 goals in a season for Brentford, so imagine what he could do at Tottenham. He would be a good signing.
