The fourth movie in the series will kick off with Bridget navigating life as a single mum of two following the death of Colin Firth’s character Mark Darcy.
Viewers will watch her enjoy a fling with teacher Mr Walker, as well as reviving her on-off relationship with Hugh Grant’s Daniel Cleaver.
She will also embark on a love affair with a much younger man named Rockstar, played by One Day star Leo Woodall, 27, in the film.
A source told The Sun: “Bridget is going to be a real cougar in the new film and she’ll be seen starting a relationship with a much younger character played by Leo.
“He was thrilled about landing the part and will have a major role as her love interest in Mad About The Boy.
“Bridget is a single mum trying to navigate a new world of social media and dating apps after Mark’s death, so she’s definitely going to end up in a pickle.
“Hugh Grant is back as Daniel Cleaver, so there will be a love triangle between Bridget’s older flame and this much younger new man.”
The movie – based on the books by Helen Fielding – will be released by Universal film on US platform Peacock on Valentine’s Day 2025.
It is unclear how closely the plot of the film will stick to that of the book, it seems likely that Colin Firth’s character is axed.
A source said: “There have been few more successful or more popular rom-coms than Bridget Jones over the last couple of decades, but everyone thought this one was done for good.
“However the producers always knew their was a huge market for another sequel when the right story was available, and this feels like the right time to tell it.
“It will be seven or eight years since the last movie by the time this one hits the big screen, and fans will be desperate to find out what happened. It’s a British classic.”
Renee first appeared as Bridget in 2001’s Bridget Jones’ Diary and returned in 2004’s Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and 2016’s Bridget Jones’ Baby.
