U18s Report: Hibs 2 St Mirren 1
The wee Hibees got their 2024/25 league campaign off to a winning start with victory over St Mirren on Friday evening.
Darren McGregor’s U18s beat St Mirren 2-1 at HTC with Jamie McMurdo and Josh Landers on target for the Hibees.
Both sides played out a competitive and close-fought encounter in the opening 45 minutes, with the Hibees creating most of the early chances.
The deadlock was broken five minutes into the second half thanks to Jamie McMurdo. Dean Cleland showed perseverance down the left-hand side to get the byline before cutting the ball back to McMurdo on the penalty spot. The Hibs forward showed great composure with his feet before firing the ball into the roof of the net to open the scoring.
However, the visitors got themselves back on level terms with an excellent finish of their own just after the hour mark – the Saints midfielder curling a left-footed strike into the top corner.
10 minutes later the Hibees were back in front, with Jamie McMurdo turning provider. The Hibs no.7 latched on to a long ball over the top before teeing up Josh Landers who beat the keeper at his near post with a fine finish.
The wee Hibees showed good game management to close out the match, kicking off their 2024/25 league campaign with a well-deserved three points.
