Brazil House showcases the country at Paris 2024
To promote Brazilian culture and support its community abroad, the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) has launched the Brazil House (or Casa Brasil, in Portuguese).
This expansive 5,000-square-meter venue is expected to welcome over 5,000 visitors daily. It will offer live shows, traditional Brazilian food, and vibrant green and yellow decor, reflecting the spirit fans from Brazil and beyond eagerly anticipate.
The Brazil House, located in Parc La Villette, opened to the public on Saturday and will host gatherings of Brazilian athletes, digital influencers, fans, ambassadors, and sponsors throughout the 14 days of the games. Open from 1 to 10 pm, the venue aims to facilitate free interactions in a festive atmosphere.
Acknowledging the recent floods in Rio Grande do Sul, Casa Brasil encourages visitors to contribute to relief efforts. Donations can be made through a QR code linked to a magnet designed by southern artist Jotapê Pax, featuring an image of the state and its representatives.
Designed with accessibility and sustainability in mind, the Brazil House offers live coverage of the Brazilian team’s Olympic performances and will host celebratory ceremonies for Brazilian medalists. Until Monday, the country had won one silver medal (Willian Lima, men’s -66 kg judo) and two bronze medals (Rayssa Leal, women’s street skateboarding, and Larissa Pimenta, women’s -52 kg judo).
The venue boasts ample space for leisure activities, including a multi-sports court for football, beach volleyball, wall climbing, skateboarding, and basketball. Traditional Brazilian sports such as dodgeball and frescobol are also featured.
Art exhibitions, particularly urban art like collages, reflect Brazil’s culture and society. Music and popular dances such as axé, forró, and samba are highlighted, alongside traditional Brazilian food and drinks. The venue also includes the Brazilian Olympic Channel studio and a store with official Brazilian team merchandise.
The Brazil House aims to connect Brazilians in Paris with their homeland and introduce Brazil’s natural and cultural treasures to international visitors in an immersive setting. Minister of Tourism Celso Sabino hopes this initiative will raise awareness of Brazil’s diverse offerings and attract more tourists, potentially surpassing 6 million visitors annually.
The project showcases various Brazilian travel destinations, including Pará (with an emphasis on the Amazon), Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará, Rio de Janeiro, and Foz do Iguaçu. Interactive cubes and virtual reality trips highlight each region’s unique features, bringing their scents, lifestyles, and beauty to life.
Visitors can also explore the Calçada da Fauna, following life-size footprints of iconic Brazilian animals like the giant anteater and jaguar. Additionally, Cubo Verde Brasil presents personalized travel itineraries, emphasizing entrepreneurship and tourism, supported by main sponsors Embratur and Sebrae.
The venue was inaugurated on Thursday with the presence of notable Brazilian Olympians, including Natália Falavigna, Janeth Arcain, and Bruno Fratus. Fratus, a bronze medalist at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, expressed his excitement, saying, “This is the first time at the Olympic Games where I can experience this. Usually, I would go straight to the Village and train, but now I can enjoy all this beyond the competition field.”
