SW Oklahoma City shooting leaves one man dead

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - A shooting on the city’s southwest side Sunday night left one man dead and police are still searching for a suspect.

Neighbors in the area said they heard the gunshots and that it isn’t the first time something like that has happened around there.

"It's nonstop every day, all night,” neighbor Michael Brock said.

Sunday night, it would be no different for Brock. Oklahoma City Police Department cars filled the area just around the corner from his home near SW 21st Street and Harvey Avenue after the shooting call that came in around 8 p.m.

"When officers arrived, they found one person there who had been shot,” Msgt. Gary Knight with the Oklahoma City Police Department said. “That person was transported to an area hospital where he unfortunately passed away."

Knight said it was an altercation that led to gunfire near the Andrews Square living facility.

"When I walked outside they had it all taped off and the guy was on the ground, we heard the gunshot in the house, but we wasn't outside to see it,” Brock said.

Brock said he has lived there for 30 years. He claims there’s been a growing homeless population there.

"They all hang out right here at the bus stop and then they try to go in the alley right here behind the houses,” Brock said. "I've called the cops three times in the hour on the same guy a couple times."

He claims one of his cars got broken into once and his truck got stolen. After Sunday night, he said he hopes more can be done to mitigate the crime around his home.

"We just need more help down here,” he said.
