British woman jailed for import of 16kg of cannabis

A British woman who attempted to import cannabis into the island was on Tuesday jailed for 11 years by the Larnaca criminal court.

The 22-year-old was arrested with 16kg of the illegal drug, in the form of dried plant material, at Larnaca airport.

She was found guilty on charges of illegal importation of a Class B controlled drug, illegal possession of a Class B controlled drug and importation of a Class B controlled drug for the purpose of supply to other persons.

She was caught on April 22 at the airport, with the cannabis in her luggage.
