High-tech 50,000sq ft bunker houses the world’s greatest supercars just off the M25

The SHY Automotive facility in Gatwick is a petrolhead's dream.

A new supercar facility for the ultra-rich has opened today in Gatwick, filled to the brim with some of the most valuable motors ever made.

SHY Automotive, in West Sussex is a brand-new 50,000 sq.ft toy box which offers ‘top-tier security and care’ to those with ultra-expensive cars looking for somewhere safe to keep them.

The site, which can hold up to 490 cars at a time, is fully kitted out with the most advanced storage tech and a team of heavies to keep it locked down at all times.

Initial images of the new location have since been revealed, showcasing a range of motors straight out of a petrolhead’s wildest dreams.

SHY Automotive says the facility ‘boasts an array of features designed to provide unparalleled security, care and peace of mind for clientele’.

But despite the untold riches contained within, the garage isn’t shy about revealing its location, just 15 minutes away from Gatwick Airport.

Instead, the company is confident that its state-of-the-art security will be more than sufficient to keep potential thieves at bay.

Customers of SHY will need to provide fingerprint recognition to enter the facility, which is monitored by 40 CCTV cameras and a round-the-clock security team.

A strict privacy policy in place also means there’s restricted access to the main vehicle vault, and a rigorous vetting process for all staff employed to work there.

The bunker features a custom racking storage system made from galvanized steel,which sees every car fitted onto a secure 2.2 by 4.8 meter tamper-proof platform.

Vehicles are then placed on the racks using a special forklift designed specifically for SHY’s luxury setup, which gives it the appearance of a supercar vending machine.

Each platform includes a fluid monitoring drip tray, a battery conditioning power supply, and additional safety measures like ratchet strap tethering to securely hold the vehicle in place.

Since the facility is dedicated to car storage, humidity levels are consistently maintained at an optimal range of 48 to 55 percent relative humidity. This prevents moisture, rust, and corrosion, ensuring the vehicles remain in perfect condition, even during extended periods of inactivity.

Before entering the garage, every car receives a mini valet which is appraised by the team and comprehensively documented by the on-site team.

Clients can then access their vehicles 365 days a year between the hours of 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

The cost to store a vehicle at the premises is £100 a week per car, and to access them outside of trading hours, owners have to make a special request.
