This episode of Evil begins with Kristen sitting on the bed with Sheryl’s ashes and little Timothy laughing away in a crib.
Leland is behind bars, too. He looks very unhappy. He’s not dressed like the other prisoners. When he tries moving beyond a yellow line, the band starts playing in his head, and a fellow prisoner knocks him out.
Boggs visits Andy at the hospital to deliver Sheryl’s note, and he’s screwing someone. They’re both wearing masks. WHAT?
(Editor’s note: We do not have photos for the episode, so we are using old artwork. Apologies)
Father Ignatius congratulates David. He’s the new pastor at the church. Ben is like, wow! Congrats! The Archdiocese wants David to be the pastor and an assessor. David is not happy with the promotion, and Ben doesn’t understand.
David says it feels like the black bluff. A black person is sent to a parish only when there is no power left — the parish is going under.
Kristen has a memorial for Sheryl, and it’s raucous and festive.

Ben asks how the girls are, and when they all talk at once, he wanders off.
David finds Kristen in the kitchen laughing with someone. Ellie (Anna Chlumsky). Sheryl used to babysit her when she was eight. Kristen wonders why she doesn’t have any female friends anymore. Then Dr. Boggs visits. He asks about Andy.
So, how are you adjusting? To losing a mother or having a son? I guess both.
Ellie asks intrusive questions.
Kristen wonders what we all do: is Sheryl in heaven, and is it really as easy as just saying, hey, Jesus, I believe in you, and you’re admitted?
Leland’s appointed lawyer is a goof (John Carroll Lynch), and Leland is appalled. This is a scene played strictly for comedy, and it works.
Ellie is very inquisitive. She says she’s Laura from the future by way of a wormhole in the particle accelerator. OMG. Really? Six months from now, David will leave the priesthood and move in with Kristen. Tomorrow, Kristen will learn that Andy is cheating, and she will divorce him.
Laura is from 30 years in the future.
(Intro message: “Skip the intro, and the show will be canceled. Oops.”)
Sheryl is in Kristen’s bedroom, or so Kristen thinks. When she turns around, it’s Kristen’s demon. He wonders if she missed him. He dumps some of Sheryl’s ashes on the end table and snorts them.
He’s taunting her about not believing Laura is from the future. He starts singing Rock a Bye Baby and rocks Timothy’s crib. Kristen wakes in fright.
She calls Andy in the middle of the night. He is waiting for the call. She recognizes right away that something isn’t right. What did Boggs say? He says he met someone, and Kristen tosses the phone on the ground and gets dressed.

She heads straight to the clinic, where Andy is still sitting there waiting for her. This is so wrong! He says he has more in common with someone who is also sick. She tells him about Timothy. He’s like, uh, huh?
Kristen takes this as well as I would. She grabs photos, says the party is over and leaves. People are outside watching through the window.
Leland’s lawyer visits again. They want him to give the guy a try. They want him to claim insanity. He’ll be out in a week.
He calls for Boggs. He owes him, he says. He’ll be compliant, he says.
Kristen gets home, and she’s in a terrible state. Ben is there, so he comforts her.
Laura overhears Kristen telling Ben about Ellie and the future. This gets Ben’s attention. He thinks it’s a very weird reason to come back in time. That she was right was also weird. Kristen wonders what she’s going to do. She’s got five kids.
Kristen downplays what’s happening with the kids. She denies future Laura.
Ben tells David to go to Kristen. He’s skeptical. When Ben leaves, demon Kristen says he should so do it.
Kristen cleanses the house of Andy. I so feel her.
David visits. They do indeed go to her office, where she locks the door. She wants him to hold her. The way they get closer sets my skin on fire, so they must be ready to combust. What. A. Scene.
They pull away, breathing right in each other’s faces. She says he should go and leaves him standing there confused.

Aidan Flowers, the parish lawyer, visits David as pastor. He’s there to tell David he must shut down the assessor program. Apparently, the parish pays the assessors. Who knew that?
The Archdiocese wants him to terminate Ben and Kristen. They’ll open a call center to deal with possessions.
Ben is like, WTF? I thought we were successful. So did David. Ben decides to go get drunk. David pushes a cooler his way. They can do it right there.
The band is breaking up? I don’t think so!
Ben: Why are you a fucking priest, David?
David: Wow, that’s a way to put it.
Ben: I mean, you and her. You’re meant to be together. Why God? Why this?
David: Ben, you don’t understand.
Ben: No? Well, tell me. Inform me. Two thousand years ago, maybe Jesus lived. Maybe he convinced people he was God. What’s that have to do with us now?
David: It’s the reason I know what’s right and wrong.
Ben: You know what’s wrong. You love her. I’ve heard you two. Hm? If I had two lives, one would be for God and one for her. What is wrong with loving her?
David: You don’t think I think about this every single day? I am committed, I am sworn, here. I am pledged to God. If that sounds like the middle ages to you, well, then fuck it. I am the middle ages because I am sick of all the broken promises in this world and all the other shit. Evil. Five minutes on this computer, and I want to put my fucking head in an oven or commit to something above it all. I will not break this promise, even if it breaks me, even if I [sighs] even if I need Kristen.
Ellie visits Laura. She’s got a present for Timothy. Can she leave it with Laura? They chat, and when Ellie uses the bathroom, Laura gets a photo of her license plate. She’s very interested in talking with Lexis because she knows what’s going to happen in 20 years.
Boggs visits Leland, who tells him he’s insane. Leland chats about The Sixty, what he believes and also what medications he needs to take to be released. Leland threatens the sale of Boggs’s book, his practice, and his life — in that order. Kristen is in court when his new lawyer takes over.
His previous lawyer is a demon who only Leland can see. He’s got dead bodies chained to him. You do not want to do this, the guy says. If he changes representation, he will eat his brains out of his skull like soup.
With the girls gathered, Kristen opens the present for Timothy. It’s just a romper, but Kristen thinks it smells funny. Laura gives her the license plate, and Kristen calls Ben for help.
The baby romper is doused in organophosphate. Karima got the info and also wonders why he’s wearing a tinfoil hat.
Kristen is visited by her night demon again. This isn’t the same demon from the beginning of the series.
Lynn is in the kitchen with her demon app open. When she gets an alert, she follows it. It says hi to her and says to guess who she is. It tells her to follow. Lynn follows out of the house to the spirit portal area. She asks where they’re going, and it says to hell. Ellie is behind her. She needs to talk with Lexis.
When Lexis is 35, and Timothy is 23, he will bring about a battle that will destroy the world. Lynn needs to talk with Mom, but Ellie brings out a box cutter. She needs to stop Lexis before she starts. Surely, Lynn must recognize there is something wrong with Lexis.

Lexis has been appointed Timothy’s protector, someone who will elevate him to the position of world leader, to lead armies with his voice, and to destroy people. As Lynn screams for Kristen, the demon in her bed makes fun of her.
The demon has Kristen dead to rights as Ellie infiltrates the house. He’s got his bucket of popcorn. This is getting exciting. Ellie goes to Kristen’s bedroom and grabs a pillow to smother Timothy. Kristen is watching, unable to move, but Laura blows a horn. If she’s her, what happens if Ellie kills her? Kristen stuns Ellie.
Ben arrives with news about the poisoned onesie. Ellie escapes, and they call the police. The license plate tracks back to the clinic where Andy is. Ellie is the woman screwing her husband. By the time they get there, Andy and Ellie have gone.
A nurse took a USB from Ellie. She had been watching it over and over.
Once that’s cleared up, David tells Kristen the news about the assessor program.
The USB drive is the message Sheryl sent to Andy. Kristen doesn’t watch it all the way through. She picks up Timothy and sings You Are My Sunshine.
