New immersive art show coming to Schenectady
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- After the success of the Van Gogh and Monet exhibits, a new immersive show is coming to Schenectady. James Hood's Mesmerica will be premiering at miSci’s Suits-Bueche Planetarium on August 23.
Mesmerica brings the music from Grammy-nominated composer and percussionist James Hood together with hypnotic 3D animated art from artists around the world. The show has sold over 600,000 tickets in over 60 North American cities.
"We are excited to bring Mesmerica to Schenectady County to the completely revamped planetarium at miSci,” said Cathy Gatta, President of the Discover Schenectady Board of Directors and Vice Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. "We wanted to go big with the new and improved planetarium and Mesmerica is the perfect immersive experience for that space."
The planetarium upgrades included a new projector, projection equipment, and sound system, as well as seating upgrades. The funding for the project came from a $99,000 grant from the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority, as well as $15,000 from the Bender Scientific Fund and the Niskayuna Community Foundation.
"What better way to launch our new and improved planetarium than to host a mind inspiring show like Mesmerica," said Dr. Gina Gould, miSci’s Executive Director.
Mesmerica is set to have regular showings throughout the fall. You can buy tickets on the Mesmerica 360 Schenectady website.
