Simone Biles labeled ‘such a queen’ and ‘making history again’ as USA superstar powers to second gold medal in Paris
SIMONE Biles has added to her ever-growing legend with yet another Olympic gold.
With one gold medal already to her name in Paris, the 27-year-old has been crowned the women’s all-around champion, reclaiming the title she first won in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
Biles continued her dominant form from the team final on Thursday, leading for much of her latest triumph.
Biles kickstarted her day on the first rotation with 15.766 on the vault – the best score of the day.
She stumbled somewhat with a relatively low 13.733 on the bars
Thankfully for Biles, she bounced back in a big way on the balance beam with a 14.566.
Before she secured the title on the floor with an outstanding floor routine, scoring 15.066.
This latest gold is the sixth in Biles’ Olympic career, and her ninth medal overall.
In doing so, she also became the first woman to win two all-around golds since 1968.
This further cements Biles as one of the all-time gymnastics greats, having already become the USA’s most decorated gymnast in Olympic history following her gold win in the team final.
Fans of the Texan were vocal throughout Biles’ latest incredible showing, flocking to X to laud the gymnastics icon.
“Simone making history. again. First Yurchenko double-pike vault done in the women’s event at the Olympics,” one fan noted.
“@Simone_Biles You are such a Queen. Well done,” said a second.
“Simone is HER,” added another.
Cheering Biles on throughout, just as they were during the team finals, were her mum, dad, and husband Jonathan Owens – all wearing Biles-themed t-shirts.
A safety for the Chicago Bears, Owens made his way to Paris on a red-eye flight ahead of the team final after receiving special permission to leave training camp.
Throughout both finals, Owens could be seen taking notes for his beloved wife.
But it wasn’t just Biles who secured more silverware at the Bercy Arena for Team USA.
Suni Lee, 21, became the first gymnast since 1976 to medal in the all-around in the games having won the event at the previous Olympics.
Lee’s second-ever Olympic bronze means she now has five medals across two summer games.
Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade finished a close second – her fifth Olympic medal and second in Paris.
