DEC releases air quality report on Dunn Landfill
RENSSELAER, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation released a new air quality report on Thursday related to the controversial Dunn Landfill in Rensselaer.
In the report, the average PM10 was measured from July 2019 to April 2024. This includes PM2.5, a particle that can cause health problems. The report concluded it found "no reason to conclude that PM2.5 levels are elevated at the Rensselaer monitor."
The Rensselaer Environmental Coalition, however, critiqued the findings, saying in-part, "The report uses the 24-hour standard instead of the annual average standard and reveals no information concerning over a year's worth of testing results on the roof of the school and says the testing continues."
They said the DEC is arranging a meeting for further discussion.
