Martin Abbas Hellicar’s loved ones look for ‘guardian angel’ from car accident
The loved ones of late environmentalist and journalist Martin Abbas Hellicar are looking for a man who stopped and helped him after he sustained serious injuries, which later proved to be fatal, in a road traffic accident in May.
Hellicar was involved in a road traffic accident on the road between the Nicosia district villages of Marki and Psimolofou on May 31 at around 3.30pm.
After the accident, a passerby stopped and helped him until an ambulance arrived to take him to hospital but did not give his name. Hellicar later described the man as a “guardian angel”.
In a widely shared social media post, Hellicar’s loved ones are looking for anyone who may have seen anything or who may know anything about the incident as well as the passerby who stopped to help him.
They added that they are appealing for witnesses of the accident to testify to the police.
The two cars involved in the accident were a grey Dacia Duster and another yellow car.
Hellicar succumbed to his injuries during the month of June. He had been the director of the non-governmental conservation organisation Birdlife Cyprus and had previously worked as a journalist for the Cyprus Mail for a period of ten years from the early nineties.
