Never too young: 12-year-old helps deliver his baby nephew on Long Island
FLANDERS, N.Y. (PIX11) -- One 12-year-old proving you’re never too young to be a hero.
The Long Island boy jumped into action and helped deliver his baby nephew when his aunt went into labor on Friday, according to Southampton police.
Public Safety Dispatcher Christopher Brenner guided the boy when he called 911 for help a little after 10 a.m. that morning. Brenner gave the boy birthing and medical instructions over the phone until his aunt was able to successfully deliver a healthy baby boy.
The 12-year-old was described as staying calm through his aunt’s labor and listened well to Brenner’s clear instructions. Police and ambulances arrived to the scene shortly after and took the new mother and her child to Peconic Bay Medical Center.
Officials praised the professionalism of all involved saying that because of everyone’s diligence the mother and her son are healthy and resting at the hospital.
