Mariners Game #111 Preview: PHL at SEA, 8/2/24
Fresh off a CGSO, Tyler Phillips and the Phillies come to Seattle
Fresh off a complete game shutout tossed at the stadium where he grew up rooting for the team he now plays for, Tyler Phillips brings his 3-0 record and impeccable vibes to T-Mobile Park along with the rest of the Phillies, who will look to pull out of a little slump they’ve been in. It’s so admirable how Phillies fans, nine games up on the rest of the division, have taken this minor slump in stride with the levelheadedness and clear-eyed fortitude we’ve come to expect from Philly sports fans.
Ah yes, that phenomenon known only to Phillies baseball players, and no one else:
There needs to be a case study into how the entire Phillies offense manages to slump at the same exact time. Just randomly. No one can hit.

And now for the series tradition of the roast of the opposition’s social team. Phillies graphics department, are you ok? This is like if Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck Babe” video had a business degree. It’s giving break room bulletin board at a Target in the Midwest. It’s somehow both too loud and making me say “can you repeat that please?” I know it’s probably annoying to come up with fresh art for a team you will see once (1x) but surely we can do better than that tiny MarinersVision clip art, which deserves to be reunited with the 1996 Gateway computer it fell out of. You’re probably gonna go to the World Series, step it up!

News:
- RHP Gregory Santos is headed to the IL with right biceps inflammation. Santos will be replaced, for now, by RHP Jonathan Hernández, claimed off waivers from Texas. Read more in the transaction writeup here.
- Jorge Polanco is not in tonight’s lineup, but is available off the bench. GM Justin Hollander characterized Polanco’s knee issue as a nagging one that will require management.
- Victor Robles is in tonight’s lineup; apparently his hip flexor issue has subsided, although like Polanco’s knee, will need to be monitored and managed over the remainder of the season.
