BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- If a tree falls in Brooklyn, or any other borough for that matter, how long until it is hauled away? The NYC Parks Department says it depends.
First, residents need to call 3-1-1 or report it on the city's Tree Map.
Then the Parks Department says it will provide a tracking number and details about how your report will be addressed. An NYC Parks inspector will visit the location, assess the condition, and determine the most appropriate course of action at that time.
PIX11 News requested information from the city about the number of 3-1-1 calls for fallen tree branches.
Over three weeks from July 1st to July 24th, there were 1,892 tree complaints citywide. 129 in the Bronx, 713 in Brooklyn, 66 in Manhattan, 719 in Queens, and 265 on Staten Island.
3-1-1 data shows it can take up to 120 days to close out a request.
The City Parks Department is also looking for volunteers to help plant and prune trees. You can learn more about their stewardship program here.
