Report: Postecoglou could receive a ‘war chest’ if big-money Tottenham deal goes through
Daniel Levy has been reportedly seeking potential suitors to invest in Tottenham as a minority stakeholder of the club, with a 10% stake for sale. Former Newcastle investor, Amanda Staveley, is believed to be interested in obtaining a stake in the club.
Daniel Levy is willing to give up a minority stake in Spurs
According to a report from The Times, Tottenham and Daniel Levy are currently seeking new investment in the North London club, and are exploring the possibility of a minority sale.
The Times state that Rothschild are currently advising Tottenham and Levy over a potential minority share sale with any funds aiming to be invested into first-team signings, funding an academy for the Women’s team, and building a new thirty-story hotel next to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Any sale would reportedly allow the controversial ex-owner of the club, Joe Lewis, to cut his ties from the club following Lewis’ investigation for US inside trading. The 87-year-old did however publicly ‘relinquish’ his role as owner of Tottenham last year.
Amanda Staveley has her eye on Tottenham
Football Insider have now reported that should the £375 million equity (10 per cent) be pumped into Tottenham; the money would immediately be made available to Postecoglou and his recruitment team in a shock ‘war chest’ fund.
The Times stated that one of the people interested in acquiring the stake that Tottenham are looking at offering up is Amanda Staveley, who recently departed Newcastle.
Staveley herself has hinted at obtaining a new stake in a club by revealing to The Athletic: “Very sadly, we have to move on to other projects and that might involve us taking a stake in another club or buying another club and that’s difficult. But it’s possible.”
Spurs Web opinion
As we have seen with the rumoured stadium naming rights deal, which is still yet to occur, business dealings around Tottenham can take a considerable amount of time.
Therefore, I would suggest it’s unlikely that should Staveley, or another investor, make an investment into Tottenham, the deal would likely happen following the conclusion of the transfer window.
Spurs shouldn’t however hesitate to make some much-needed additions to the squad before the window shuts at the end of August.
