Pelosi laughs at Trump’s Vance pick: ‘I think it was a great choice’
Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) made fun of former President Trump’s pick of Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) as his running mate on Sunday, laughing it off.
“It was a great choice,” Pelosi said in a CBS “Sunday Morning” interview, laughing, when asked if the pick was a mistake.
Some Republicans have criticized the choice of Vance on the GOP ticket, claiming the freshman senator isn’t what the party needs to win in November.
Democrats have attacked Vance over his strict opposition to abortion access and comments about families with children and have simply labeled him “weird.”
Pelosi later described the senator as “menacing.”
Vance has also floundered in campaign appearances since being named to the ticket at the Republican National Convention and struggles with a low approval rating.
The pick was criticized for doubling down on many of Trump’s policies, including some less popular with the public, instead of the traditional strategy of seeking “balance” on a presidential ticket.
Vance took the criticism head-on on Sunday, dismissing any idea that Trump made a mistake.
“Look, I recognize that there are a lot of folks, even in the GOP establishment and certainly on the far left, who don’t like the fact that Donald Trump picked me,” Vance said on Fox News’s “Sunday Morning Futures.”
“I actually take their criticism as a badge of honor. Of course, the media is going to attack the people they fear the most,” he continued. “The media is going to attack the people, I think, who can most effectively bring President Trump’s message to a broader swath of the electorate.”
