Taylor Swift Leads VMAs Nominations for 2nd Year in a Row With 10
For the second year in a row, Taylor Swift is leading the Video Music Awards in terms of total nominations. The artist behind “Tortured Poets Society” secured 10 noms, one more than the second most nominated artist, Post Malone.
Altogether, Swift was nominated for Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Pop, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Art Direction. If Swift wins the coveted Video of the Year, she will shatter her own record and become the only artist to win the top honor three years in a row as well as five times throughout her career.
Swift is nominated for Video of the Year for “Fortnight,” a song she collaborated on with Post Malone, who stands as the second most nominated artist this year. In addition to Video of the Year, “Fortnight” and Malone were nominated for Song of the Year, Best Collaboration, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects and Best Art Direction. Malone was nominated a second time for Best Collaboration thanks to “I Had Some Help,” his song featuring Morgan Wallen.
After Swift and Post Malone, Ariana Grande, Eminem and Sabrina Carpenter were the most nominated, securing six honors each. Megan Thee Stallion and SZA were then nominated five times apiece. Finally, LISA, Olivia Rodrigo and Teddy Swims each secured four noms.
Carpenter and Swims’ multiple nominations are especially impressive because 2024 marks the first time both have been VMAs nominees. Altogether, there were 29 first-time nominees. Benson Boone and Tyla secured three honors apiece. As for the first-timers who were nominated in two categories, Chappell Roan, Jelly Roll, Jessie Murph, Rauw Alejandro, Sexyy Red and Victoria Monét all made that list.
Starting today, fans will be able to vote for their favorite artists across the 15 gender-neutral categories. The voting window will close on Aug. 30 for Video of the Year, Best Collaboration and Artist of the Year. Voting for Best New Artists will be active until Sept. 10. Nominations for social categories will be announced at a later date.
After two years in New Jersey, the VMAs are returning to New York for 2024. The ceremony will air live from the UBS Arena on Sept. 10 at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
