‘I’m staggered!’ Wine experts reveal the £5 bottles from Aldi that taste better than £50 buys following blind taste test
ALDI’S wine dupes are already acclaimed for their quality and likeness to our lavish favourites.
From Whispering Angel copycats for less than a tenner, to an imitation of the newly-viral “chicken wine” – the budget supermarket has it all.
Aldi did a blind taste test of its new summer wines[/caption] Grape connoisseurs believed they were drinking £50 bubbly, white, red and rosé[/caption] Prices for the supermarket bottles actually started as cheap as £4.99[/caption]Now, Aldi has released the results of a blind taste test for some of its newest bottles.
Wine buffs unknowingly sampled new bubbly, red, white and rosé bottles from the supermarket.
Hilariously, all of them actually believed they were sipping on £50 vino rather than £5 booze.
Aldi took to a royal show jumping event to catch the drinkers out.
A video recorded at the event shows a flamboyant wine merchant – known as Justin Youraldi – pouring out glasses of red, white and rosé for event goers to taste.
They thought they were sipping on exotic grapes from the world’s most exclusive vineyards, costing nearly 10 times the price.
However, they were actually enjoying Aldi wines priced as cheap as £4.99.
Attendees at The Royal International Horse Show in West Sussex spoke eloquently about the aromas, balance, acidity and earthiness of the vino before the big price reveal.
One surprised wine taster can be heard exclaiming upon the reveal: “I can’t believe that!
“I’m staggered.
“I’m off to Aldi.
“You’ve won a customer.”
Mistress of Wine, Sam Caporn, explained why the budding connoisseurs were so easily fooled by Aldi’s wines.
She said: “It’s really no surprise that Aldi’s wines were mistaken as far more expensive ones.

“My top pick of the wines that fooled Justin Youraldi’s customers is the Pierre Jaurant Côtes De Gascogne.
“Pale and fresh with delicate green aromas of herbs, grass, elderflower and citrus – the palate of this white wine is zingy and pleasing in texture.
“At just £4.99, it’s an absolute steal.”
New research by Aldi found that people revel in fooling friends with a bargain.
A whopping 43% said that they have served a low-cost wine as a luxury choice and received compliments.
