Report: How Richarlison’s future could impact Tottenham signing Dominic Solanke
Tottenham’s interest in Dominic Solanke has been well reported with the club trying to negotiate around the striker’s reported £65m release clause. However, a move may be on hold until Tottenham receive an official offer from Saudi Arabia for Richarlison.
Tottenham are looking to upgrade on Richarlison this summer
Ange Postecoglou has been open about wanting a striker this summer, explaining in a recent interview: “I think for us what’s more important is the type of striker we get. You know we play a certain way. We demand certain things from a physical perspective from the technical aspects of it that it’s going be a striker that fits that mould,” (Football.London).
One option is Dominic Solanke of Bournemouth, whose impressive form last campaign has earned him interest from Spurs, with The Telegraph reporting that Tottenham are now looking to push through a deal for the striker who is believed to have a £65 million release clause.
Tottenham clearly believe that Solanke, who netted 19 Premier League goals for Bournemouth last time out (TransferMarkt), is a better option for Postecoglou’s system than Richarlison, who only found the back of the net 11 times in the league last campaign (TransferMarkt).
Spurs are waiting for a bid from Saudi Arabia for Richarlison
Richarlison’s future will reportedly be pivotal to Tottenham’s pursuit of Dominic Solanke, according to TalkSport.
The report claims that the Brazilian is open to a move to his most likely destination, Saudi Arabia, despite publicly stating earlier in the window on his Instagram that he would not be moving away from England this summer (Daily Mail).
Spurs are reportedly awaiting an official offer from Saudi Arabian side, Al-Ahli, who have signed Premier League stars such as Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino and Edouard Mendy in the past.
Al-Ahli are believed to have indicated to Tottenham that they would like to sign Richarlison this summer and are willing to meet Spurs’ £60 million valuation of the striker to do so. Spurs could then recycle the fee into a deal for Dominic Solanke.
However, Fabrizio Romano reported today that Spurs are already in talks with Bournemouth over a potential transfer for Solanke this week.
HITC claim that Spurs signing a new striker is not dependent on the sale of Richarlison, while GiveMeSport suggest the Lilywhites are unwilling to break their transfer record on Solanke while Richarlison is no closer to leaving. So, it really all depends on which report you believe at the moment!
Spurs Web opinion
Richarlison has gained a soft spot from most Tottenham fans over the past season for his relentless pressing, constant fan interaction and refreshing openness with his mental health struggles.
Although the Brazilian did break the ten-goal mark last season, he likely isn’t quite good enough to help carry Tottenham to the next level.
Richarlison would be a brilliant second option up top, but if a bid of £60 million does arrive, it’s more than understandable if Tottenham snatch the money and move their number nine on.
